BoneCommons is an ICAZ-sponsored project developed by the Alexandria Archive Institute. Launched in May 2006, BoneCommons facilitates discussion and contact between zooarchaeologists worldwide by offering forums where ICAZ members can post papers, ideas, images, questions, and comments. Features for ICAZ Members:


As a benefit of membership, all International Council for Archaeozoology (ICAZ) members have password-protected access to BoneCommons. Members have the following capabilities:

  • Post comments to ongoing discussions
  • Submit new discussion topics/questions
  • Contribute references to a list of member publications
  • Upload photos related to discussions or questions
  • Share teaching materials, such as course syllabi, reading lists, and handouts
  • Upload conference papers, presentations, and publications
  • Post links to papers/publications, websites, or other related online content

Features for the General Public:


All content on BoneCommons, while owned by the creator of the content, is openly viewable by the general public worldwide. Anyone can search BoneCommons and view its content without having a password. However, only ICAZ members with passwords can contribute content and comments.
